Quotas
- All Computer Science accounts are subject to disk space quotas.
- Quotas may be increased by filling out an account maintenance form.
- Quotas consist of a soft limit and a hard limit. The soft limit is the
point where the system starts complaining that you are over quota, and
starts a timer. The hard limit is the point past which write operations
will fail.
- A user may view their quota settings, and current status with the command:
quota -v
Incoming email will bounce if a user's quota has expired, or if the email
would put the user over the hard limit.
System Maintenance
- Emergency situations may force us to reboot the server at non-scheduled
times. At these times, we will try to give at least 20 minutes warning
through email and messages from root on the various login servers.
- Planned maintenance interruptions may occur on Saturday mornings between
the hours of 06:00 and 10:00 CDT. Announcements will be made through email
and the department website.
Disabling Accounts
- Accounts may be disabled by the systems administrator at any time because
of suspicious activity or failure to correct quota-related problems.
- If your account has been disabled, you must contact one of the systems
administrators with proof of your identity to have it reenabled.
Resetting Passwords
- If you have forgotten your password, you may request a reset in person
at 541 PGH during posted business hours. Bring your ID.
Lab Hours
- Lab hours are posted on the doors of the labs.
- Lab avaialability is dependent on availability of lab monitors to watch
the labs. If special situations require after hours lab access, the Chairman's
approval is required.
- During the semester, the computer labs will be closed on staff holidays.
- Between semesters, all labs are closed to general use, and all labs
except 547 will be powered off.
