Review List Midterm Exam COSC 6340 Spring 2003
The midterm exam of COSC 6340 is scheduled for
Tu., March 25, 2003 11:30a-12:50p. The exam will be "open textbooks
and notes". The following material is relevant for the exam (Remark: chapters of
the third edition are in parantheses):
- Relational Algebra: Section 4.2 (except division)
- B+-Trees: Chapter 9 except 9.1 and 9.8.2 and 9.8.3, and all the material that
was discussed in class (10.3 through 10.7 newest edition)
- Hashing: only static hashing
- Implementing Relational Operators: 12.1, 12.2, 12.3 and 12.5 (Section 14.1, 14.2 and 14.5 newest edition)
- Query Optimization: Chapter 13(Chapter 12 completely) completely and Chaudhuri survery article.
- Schema Refinement and Normalization: Chapter 15 completely except 15.5.2 and 15.8.3, 15.8.4, and 15.8.5
(Chapter 19 except 19.4.2, 19.6.2, 19.7, 19.8.3, 19.8.4, 19.8.5, 19.9) and all the material that was discussed in class.
- Physical Database Design: 16.1 through 16.8 (20.1 through 20.8)
- Introduction to KDD: Han book pages 1-9 and class transparencies
- Object similarity assessment and database clustering: Han book, pages 335 to 350 and class transparencies
