Postdoctoral Positions in Computer Science
TEXAS CENTER FOR COMPUTATIONAL AND INFORMATION SCIENCES
The Texas Center for Computational
and Information Sciences (TCCIS) at the University of Houston seeks
computer scientists to participate in national scale projects with the
National Science Foundation funded Partnerships for Advanced
Computational Infrastructure,
NPACI lead by the University of
California at San Diego and
NCSA lead
by the University of Illinois at Urbana/Champaign in the areas of
distributed computation, wide area data caching, hierarchical storage
management and parallel scientific libraries.
The TCCIS has excellent
computational, visualization and networking resources. It has at its
disposal a 64 node IBM SP2 with mass storage, a vector supercomputer,
and a 3D CAVE and other visualization resources through the
Virtual Environment Technology
Laboratory (VETL), a campus ATM network, an OC-12 regional
network connected to the
Texas GigaPoP that serves as
the gateway to the vBNS.
The University of Houston through TCCIS is affiliated with the
Center for Research in Parallel
Computation, an NSF Science and Technology Center. TCCIS is also
participating in the Globus project
and its GUSTO tesbed that at SC97 operated with about 3,600 processors on
several continents. The Globus project received the 1998 NGI Award for
innovative use of the Internet. For the Alliance98 symposium TCCIS
participated in a collaborative virtual environment demonstration
involving five sites: EVL at the University of Illinois at Chicago,
NCSA at the University of Illinois at Urbana/Champaign, The University of
Utah, ParallelDatorCentrum at the Royal Institute of Technology in
Stockholm, and TCCIS at the University of Houston.
Required: Ph.D. in Computer Science or Computational Science; experience
with parallel supercomputers or distributed computing (either systems or
applications experience is acceptable); fluency in high-level and
parallel computer languages.
