User Account
A regular student user has two different accounts in the department systems:

Account Application
Vhome Lab account: Your Vhome account is the same as your vnet account; check PGH 541 if you cannot have your vhome account working after your vnet account is created.
CS Unix Account: Fill out an application form that can be downloaded or obtained at 541 or 501 PGH. and submit it with a copy of your fee bill proving your status in the Computer Science Department. Allow five working days for your account to be created, and bring a photo ID to 541 PGH during posted office hours to retrieve your username/password.
I have a Vhome lab account now ...
You can now login to any machines in the department labs, PGH 376, PGH 533 and PGH 563 and use the software installed. See pages for what software are installed on the lab machines.
I have a CS Unix account now ...
You can now login to Unix machines, check your email, create your home page, etc.
Rules and Policies
All users of Computer Science Department computing facilities must follow the policies and rules defined by the department, college and the university. In accordance with established university policies and applicable local, state and federal laws regarding computer violations, a user found to be abusing or misusing university computer resources is subject to immediate disciplinary action up to and including expulsion from the university or termination of employment, and legal action.

All users are required to review the computing security policies and guidelines at least annually. Failure to do this is subject to the disabling of the accounts. Review and sign the Computer Science Department Annual Review of Computer Account Guidelines and return it to system office at PGH 541. .
Password Control:
All passwords must follow the rules defined in
Information
Security Manual - Password Control. For example, Passwords shall have a
minimum length of eight characters, changed on a regular basis (at lease once
every 60 days), not obviously/easily guessed (nicknames, data of birth, etc),
not shared with other users and not written down and easily accessible/visible
to other persons.
