Logging in via Secure Shell from Windows

The following two secure shell clients are recommended (although there are other good clients out there): PuTTY, and SSH.COM's sshwin application.

PuTTY is free for anybody to use (subject to their country's cryptography laws), and includes tools that can be used from the command line in Windows' cmd prompt. The binaries for PuTTY aren't zipped up, so you must download them straight from the web page into a folder on your hard drive. (I recommend your c:\windows\system32 or c:\winnt\system32 directory so they are in your execution path).

In order to transfer files by drag and drop with PuTTY, you will have to download pscp and Secure IXplorer GPL

The SSH client from ssh.com has a packaged installation and is much easier, but you must use it for educational purposes only else it is not free.
