A Simplified Model for the Chinese Hairy Brush

[Introduction] - [Videos] - [Images]

Introduction
We propose a simplified approach to modeling the Chinese hairy brush to mimic a range of essential styles of dry and wet strokes. The modeling includes a light-weight 3D geometry brush model, a generic brush motion model, and an efficient method for ink diffusion on the Chinese fiber paper. We implemented the approach on an ordinary PC equipped with a pen-based tablet. Although our modeling is not fully physically based, experimental results
show that when compared with the previous models, our system is comparable in quality, and because of the many simplications we adopted, it is interactive in performance. In addition, the ink dispersion component leads to various painting effects that are useful for realistic rendering.
