Agreement with University of Applied Sciences
at Lueneburg, Germany

February 4, 1999

The University of Houston signed a Memorandum of Cooperation with the University of Applied Sciences, (Fachhochschule Nordostniedersachsen, FH NON) Lueneburg, Germany recently.

FH NON is offering a Master of Science in Applied Computing degree in Lueneburg. One of the requirements for the students of the program is to spend one semester at a foreign university studying computer science. UH is the second university selected by FH NON as a partner in the program according to Dr. Stephen Huang who made the initial contact with Dr. Heinz Knoell of FH NON two years ago. The only other partner university is in England.

A delegation from FH NON visited UH to conclude the agreement in February. Dr. John Bear, Dean of NSM, and Dr. Ulrich Hoffmann, Dean of Business Administration of FH NON, signed the agreement on UH campus on February 4, 1999. Dr. Ernst Leiss, Associate Chair of Computer Science, who finalized the agreement between the two universities, was also on hand to celebrate the event.

Under the agreement, students at FH NON who choose to spend one semester at UH will be admitted as a Master of Science student in the Computer Science Department. Their credit will be transferred back to their home institution. The first two German students will arrive this Fall.
