Here are the instructions that should be followed step by step for the succesful installation of oracle 9i personal software.

First go to www.oracle.com and sign up to be a member so that it can let u downloading the files.

1 : From the web site
http://otn.oracle.com/software/products/oracle9i/htdocs/winsoft.html
download oracle software (three disks).with file names

Download the Complete Files

92010NT_Disk1.zip (612,802,971 bytes)

92010NT_Disk2.zip (537,604,934 bytes)

92010NT_Disk3.zip (254,458,106 bytes)

2 : After downloading , unzip them in the folders ( c:\disk1 , c:\disk2 , c:\disk3 )

3: run the setup file from disk one and then follow the instructions given below -

An Abbreviated Version

Note: The firewall, internet activity, and the virus checker were all disabled during the installation process.

If a previous edition of Oracle was installed, use the deinstall feature to remove it.
After it is removed, go to Services and close any oracle service that is running.

Select Install/Deinstall Products
Select Oracle 9i database
Select Personal Edition
Select General Purpose
It is recommended that you do not change the port number..
Enter STUDENT as the database name in the Global Database Name box, what you type will be echoed in the SID box below it.
You may change the location of the database files, or the recommended location.
Use the default Database Character Set
After you review the list of Oracle products to be installed, Click Install.
The installation begins.

For sys password enter takoma
For system password enter park

Install the sqlplus icon on the desktop

Create file association: .sql file should open notepad
Create file association: .lst file should open notepad

To test it click Oracle Home | Application Development | SQLPLUS

Log in as scott/tiger (no host string is required)

Type select * from dept and see if there is data.

Note: the footprint for this installation is around 2.4 gigabytes
