Review List May 8 Final Exam COSC 6340
The final exam is scheduled for Tu., May 8, 2-5p.
The exam will be "open textbooks
and notes". The following material is relevant for the exam:
- E/R Model and Object-Oriented Databases: everything that was discussed in
class conc. the E/R model
(even if it is not discussed in Raghu's textbook; e.g. min and max
cardinality constraints) and ODL/OQL incl.
Chapter 12 of the ElMasri book and chapter 2 of our textbook. You will
not be required to write OQL-queries!
- SQL and Triggers: review chapter 5 sections 5.1, 5.2, 5.3, 5.4, 5.5, 5.12, 5.13 of
our textbook;
write SQL-queries and triggers
- Relational Database Design: Chapter 15 of the textbook excluding 2NF, 3NF,
join-dependencies, inclusion dependencies, and 5thNF,
centering on material discussed in class or that was part of
the homework.
- Introduction to KDD: transparencies and pages 1-9 of the Han book.
- OLAP and Data Warehouses: pages 39-68, 79-83 and 98-99 of the Han book and pages
682-690 and 694-703 Ramakrishnan book. Moreover, have a short look at the
OLAP demo (link is on the 6340-homepage).
- Association Rules: pages 225-239, 244-257, 269-271 in the Han book, exam questions will
center on topics that were discussed in class.
- Internet Databases and XML: Review chapter 22 of the textbook (pages
642-645, 651-663 centering on what was
discussed in class, especially XML; also review the "american XML slideshow"(link
is in the 6340-homepage), and
be prepared to design an XML DTD for a particular application (similar to the problem
in the second homework).
Most problems (at least 80%) will cover materail that was
discussed in class. The exam will be open textbook/notes
and is scheduled to take approx. 150 minutes.
