Case Studies for COSC 7363 (Spring 1998)

weight of the case study: 15-20% of the overall grade

We., April 1, 5:30p: The two data sets of the case study
     are introduced; one will involve a classification 
     problem and one will involve a function approximation
     problem. Each student will pick one of these data sets,
     analyzes it, and writes a 1-2 page report on their findings.
     Submitted your best guesses for the 20-testcases enclosed
     by '(' and ')" in exactly the same order as in the testfile
    (e.g. (0.23 0.343 0.434 ... 0.99)). 

Additional comments: Outputs for the approximation problem are in [0,1];
                     there are 4 classes in the classfication problem
                     names 0, 1, 2, and 3. All input attributes of both
                     problems have values in [0,1].

We., April 22, 5:30-9:30(550/547 PGH): Sharing and Tool Demo; each 
     student reports on his/her findings (3-4min.). Furthermore, 
     several tools will be shown "at work" for the two data sets.
