The Graduate Assistance in Areas of National Need (GAANN) program provides fellowships through academic departments of institutions of higher education to assist graduate students of superior ability who (1) demonstrate financial need, (2) plan to pursue Ph. D. degrees, and (3) plan a career in teaching or research.
