I am teaching COSC 6360 during the second six-week summer session (from July 6 to August 6).

I will teach COSC 4330and COSC 6360 next fall.

Advising

I am always willing to work with masters and doctoral students who want to work in one of my areas of expertise. I look for people who can write correct English and are willing to simulate or analyze potential improvements to computer systems. There are now great opportunities in the area of data survivability.

Research

Most of my recent work has been in two areas:

Data survivability in storage systems:
This is a problem whose importance is rapidly increasing, as many organizations now keep on line vast amounts of data for very long periods of time. We must find ways to store these data in the most efficient fashion while protecting them against disk failures. I am particularly interested in self-adaptive storage organizations that reorganize themselves while waiting for disk repairs.

Video streaming, distribution protocols for video-on-demand and reliable multicast:
Most of my work has focused on developing better broadcasting schemes, among which Polyharmonic Broadcasting, Pagoda Broadcasting. and New Pagoda Broadcasting. I am now working on collaborative video distribution schemes for peer-to-peer (P2P) environments.

I have also worked on file access prediction and the management of replicated data.
