Day Distance WO Time Place Shoe Comment
12/27, 8:25a 18.5M easy 4:00:22 Hofheim-Bahei_Temple-Bremthal, Germany R8 T=36-42; overcast, then mostly cloudy the last hour; with water carrier on a quite hilly course with not always good footing on somewhat wet forrest trails; moreover, had terribly cold hands miles 5-10; a so-so run; ran the first 14 miles quite slowly; however, showed some endurance, running the last 4.5M, picking up the pace---although not by a lot!
12/29, 10:30a 6.8M easy 1:09:26 UH_DT3 SNG8 T=65-66, H=60-49% and partly cloudy. After all this slow running the last two weeks, finally an encouraging, somewhat faster run on the "new" UH-DT3 route (official length: 6.72M) that now crosses to the south side of BB, then crosses the Long Bridge, going back to the Columbus entrance via the Y-Bridge. 181.4p: Only gained one pound, when visiting Germany; now, it is mandatory to lose 5 pounds by January 8, 2017...
12/31, 6:55a 5.7M easy 1:01:32 Allen R8 T=57, H=98% and rain. Ran quite slowly in rainy conditions!
1/1, 6:45a 5.9M ftl: 10x(2:f|2:s) 1:00:29 Allen BoBoo5 T=65, H=96% and overcast. First faster workout in 16 days; somewhat slow, running the 2-min fast sections about 8:30-8:40(??) pace, but the sore right rips behaved. 180.2p.
1/3, 6:40a 17.0M easy 3:00:04 (10:37-pace; ran mile 16 in 9:53-pace) H-UH_DT-MemPa(2)-H R8 T=59-64, H=86-75% and sunny. Decent ran in appealing conditions!
1/5, 12:10p 6.7M easy 1:09:39 TownL, Austin (SteRay -LoHoD-SteRay) SNG8 T=55-58, H=62-59% and mostly cloudy. Decent Run!
1/6, 3:45p 5.3M easy 56:46 TownL, Austin (First-PedBri-First) WR20 T=32 and overcast with 13mph very cold North wind. Not a good run today, as it took me 3 miles to warm up! Canceled the planned tempo-run, due to increased injury risk because of the very cold temperature.
1/8, 10:05p 75min Dancing To the music of MuteMath at Emo's in South Austin; a huge venue; about 1500-2000 people attended this concert (about 90% full), which meant: limited dancing space!
1/9, 4:40p 6.4M t: 1M...1M 1:02:19 (mile 3: 8:51, mile 5: 8:31) Allen SNG8 T=66, H=77% and overcast. Kind of slow on the first faster mile, but ran the second faster mile at a better pace. 180.0p.
1/11, 12:40p 5.3M flt: 13x 1:f|1:s 54:34 Allen BoBoo6 T=77-78, H=70-67% and partly cloudy. Dress Rehersal! High blood pressure today at 8:30a during my medical checkup: 160/95, but was 140 when I measured it again at noon. Ran okay but not well today, in very challenging running conditions.
1/12, 4:55p 5.3M easy 53:57 AllenR R8 T=77-76, H=70-76% and mostly cloudy. Decent run today, the last one before the Houston Marathon! BS: 112(117), Col: 188 (199), 178.6p!
1/15, 7a 26.7M 45th Chevron Houston Marathon 4:41:25 (9:26 9:27 9:11 9:17 9:21 9:08 9:19 9:24 9:35 9:37 9:40 10:01 9:56 10:55 9:52 10:42 10:07 10:39 11:34 13:39 11:34 12:56 12:38 13:13 12:38 12:19 9:10 (0.21)) Houston, Texas BoBoo6 T=66-72; H=99-95-99% and overcast; with 80 minutes off on and off drizzel 3:00-4:20 race time. A race to forget; decided to go out in 9:25-9:30 pace, but I already started to slow down at mile 9, and decided when I reached mile 18 that I didn't care about my time in this race; consequently, I run-walked the last 8.2M, minimizing stress! Moreover, according to my watch I covered 26.55 miles today! This was my 239th race lifetime, my 7th Houston Marathon finish, and the 32nd marathon I completed! 68/175a. 179.2p; did not gain weight in the week before the race!
1/20, 4:55p 5.3 3.0M very easy AllenR R8 Had to cut the run short, due to digestive problems. 181.0p.
1/22, 6:30a 10.9M easy 1:46:19 (9:56 10:27 10:14 10:27 9:20 9:24 9:37 9:29 9:52 9:25 9:35) RivOk WR20 T=57-59, H=48% and partly cloudy. Good run, running with Steve Hasson and another runner, in "not bad" conditions, the first time since January 3!
1/23, 3:55p 5.3M easy 55:21 AllenR R8 T=72, H=33% and partly cloudy. So, so run in okay afternoon running conditions. Struggling with both a cold and allergies.
1/25, 3:55p 5.2M very easy 58:46 Allen SNG8 T=69, H=95% and mostly cloudy. Still very congested, taking it very easy today in "Houston Marathon Repeat Conditions".
1/27, 10:45a 6.8M easy 1:11:12 UH_DT3 WR20 T=50-53, H=41-33% and mostly cloudy. Still somewhat congested, but running okay today. 179.0p
1/29, 12:15p 12.9M easy 2:15:05 H-MemPa(2)-H SNG8 T=60-64, H=41-34% and sunny. Decent rare lunch time run enjoying a lot of sunshine alleviated by an enjoyable north wind.
1/30, 5:05p 5.3M easy 52:25 AllenR R8 T=78-74, H=35-31% and partly cloudy. Really good run, considering the tough run yesterday. Some tightness in a muscle just below my right knee. 177.6p!
2/1, 7:40a 6.6M t: 2M...1M 1:06:00 (mile 3+4: 9:23-8:46, mile 6: 8:55) Allen BoBoo5 T=64-66, H=90% and mostly cloudy; ran the first faster mile really slow, but did better but not really well the next two miles! Semi-ultimate run for BoBoo5!
2/3, 7:05a 5.0M easy 54:24 Allen SNG8 T=53, H=83% and overcast. Took it very easy today, after too much red wine the night before.
2/5, 6:50a 18.1M (walked mile 16) easy 3:23:53 (11:37 11:25 11:35 11:25 11:18 11:25 11:03 11:12 10:52 10:45 10:39 10:24 10:35 10:26 10:22 16:33(walked) 11:04 10:44) H-UH_DT-MemPa(2.3)-H WR20 T=67-72, H=99-95% and overcast then mostly cloudy the last hour. This was really a struggle today; this week I was less congested but felt quite tired the last 4 days (I also worked too much those days!); I did not feel like doing a long run today and crawled along in very bad conditions the first 8 miles, but then succeeded to pick up the pace a little starting mile 9, and did not walk until the planned walk at mile 16, although I felt like taking a walking break the whole second half of this run. But I am really very happy to finish this long run that was postponed from Wednesday, due to the allergy problems I faced end of January; now I am back on track with my training for a March Marathon long-run-wise. 178.8p.
2/7, 6:55a 5.0M easy 53:35 AllenR R8 T=72, H=98% and mostly cloudy. Okay run on a warm temperature record day!
2/8, 4:45p 5.7M ftl: 13x(1:f|1:s) 56:09 Allen BoBoo5 T=86-85, H=52-37% and sunny. Okay workout; cut workout from 16 to 13 repeats due to the extreme warm conditions; some minor soreness in the left oblique muscle. Humidity dropped dramatically is the wind turned north early in the run. Last run for BoBoo5, after more than 2 years of service but only totaling 237 miles!
2/10, 7:00a 5.3M easy 56:53 Allen R8 T=61-63, H=96-93% and mostly cloudy. Not a good run today! 180.0p
2/12, 8a 13.8M 6th Rhythm and Blues Half-Marathon 2:00:46 (9:12.73 pace; 9:08 9:14 9:09 9:00 9:20 9:15 9:25 9:05 9:36 9:33 9:11 9:02 8:32 7:55(0.109M) ) Houston, Texas BoBoo6 T=73-78; H=87-74% and mostly cloudy then partly cloudy; kind of a race without a watch, as my watch did not display my race-pace; decent race; ran much too conservatively miles 5-10, but it got really hot on the course when the sun was coming out; also, due to my lack of pace-feedback, fell of pace on miles 9 and 10, but then finished the race really strong. Got a nice age group award you can put on the wall: 2/14a & 130/648o. Should have been 2-3 minutes faster, but ran a really decent race in really warm conditions on a not exceptionally fast course.
2/15, 7:05a 18.8M easy 3:20:11 (11:39 11:10 11:39 11:06 11:14 10:30 10:42 10:50 11:11 10:33 10:45 10:11 10:21 10:28 9:52 10:03 9:56 10:10 10:07(0.75M)) H-UH_DT-MemPa(2.25)-H SNG8 T=48-56, H=75-61% and overcast then partly cloudy for the last hour, facing a cold 10m/ph WNW wind; very good run after running the first 11 miles very slowly; particularly, ran the last 5 miles faster than 10:10, including 9:52 and 9:56 on miles 15 and 17. I am happy that I was able to catch up with the long runs: if I do another 20M long run on February 25, I should be prepared for a March 12 (or 19) marathon. Took two rest days before today's run to better recover from Sunday's Half-Marathon race, and it worked!
2/16, 5:25p 5.2M easy 53:23 Allen R8 T=67-65, H=37% and partly cloudy. Decent run this evening, running a decent pace the last 3 miles just 30 hours after a long long run!
2/18, 7:00a 6.4M easy 1:11:51 UH_DT5 WR20 T=64, H=98% and mostly cloudy. Okay run that took longer as I explored a new route along the side leg of Buffalo Bayou near UH Downtown: I had to traverese a lot of stair cases and muddy, steep hill sides, and therefore averaged 12:20-pace on miles 3 and 4. 179.2p.
2/19, 6:30a 10.0M m: 3M 1:35:32 (ran miles 5-7 8:57-pace) RivOk SNG8 T=71, H=96% and overcast; good run on quite tired legs in very bad conditions; ran miles 3-7 very well, but than got really tired at the end and averaged 10:07-pace the last 3 miles. Happy that I made it though a 40.4M week okay!
2/21, 6:55a 5.0M easy 53:13 AllenR R8 T=61, H=98% and mostly cloudy. So so run. 178.2p!
2/22, 6:50a 6.0M ftl: 10x(2:f|2:s) 1:00:11 Allen BoBoo6 T=54, H=98-90% and partly cloudy; ran the fartleks 2-6 quite slowly 8:55-8:40 pace, but then picked up the pace on the last four to 8:30-8:25 pace.
2/23, 5:35p 5.2M easy 52:29 AllenR SNG8 T=77-74, H=63-68% and sunny; very good run a quite fast pace.
2/25, 6:50a 20.2M easy 3:28:38 (1:46:45|1:41:53; 10:20-pace; 11:47 11:00 10:55 10:34 10:22 10:15 10:49 9:41 10:22 10:27 10:39 10:14 10:24 10:16 9:53 9:56 10:12 9:33 9:48 9:39 9:44(residual)) Twice Town Lake Butler Trail Loop, Austin WR20 T=46-50, H=52-30% sunny with 8mph cold NNE wind. Ran the second loop very well in very good running conditions, particularly during the second loop when it warmed up a little. This concludes 2 weeks of very good training! Saw Andrew "Jr. Boy" Jones Band and Lerrie Lepai Jones at Antone's Night Club in the evening, playing the Blues.
2/27, 5:20p 5.3M easy 56:51 AllenR R8 T=80-77, H=76-80% and mostly cloudy; slow run; I guess I am not yet completely recovered from the challenging Saturday morning run. 182.2p: gained almost 3 pounds when visiting Austin!
3/1 1:10p 6.0M ftl: 17x(1:f|1:s) 1:01:10 (started 18:, finished 53:, moved 48: to 52:, walked: 41-42, 43-44, 45-46, 53-56; paces: 2-5: 9:05-9:20, 6-8: 8:35-8:50, 9-17: 8:10-8:25) Allen SNG8 T=82-81, H=50-41% and partly cloudy; did fine, in quite challenging conditions!
3/2, 6:50a 5.3M easy 54:52 UH_DT1 R8 T=51-55, H=46-43% and partly cloudy; revised the UH_DT1 route that now takes advantage of the new southside trails of Buffalo Bayou, passing by the nice Worthham Center Waterfall. Decent run. Last run for R8!
3/4, 9:20a 8.0M Houston Rodeo 10K Run 52:02.5 (officially 8:24-pace—but course was 0.12 miles short; 8:29 8:29 8:33 8:45(a lot of turns!) 8:34 8:22 7:33(str.) ) Houston, Texas BoBoo6 T=63-66, H=65-63% and mostly cloudy; followed the plan to run 8:30-pace the first half, but then I had somewhat tired legs, and could not increase my pace to 7:55-8:10 pace, as planned! Okay, but not good race. 16/68a, 730/3420o. 180.6p.
3/6, 5:20p 5.3M easy 1:00:33 (walked most of mile 4, and was also slowed down mile 2-3 due to digestive problems, but ran the first mile in 10:20 and mile 5 in 9:55-pace) Allen WR20 T=77-75, H=82-85% and mostly cloudy; ran the was hampered by digestive problems that were resolved at mile 3.6 by finding an "outdoor restroom"!
3/8 6:40a 5.7M ftl: 6x(2:f|2:s) 59:29 Allen SNG8 T=61, H=56% and mostly cloudy; not running too well today; also my right ancle felt somewhat sore, and I had problems to get going, but I succeeded to run the last 3 repeats at 8:15-8:30 pace.
3/11, 5:15p 2.0M very easy 22:22 Pinehook&Rue de la France, Lafayette, Louisiana SNG8 T=72, H=81% and overcast.
3/12, 7:00a 26.7M Zydeco Marathon 4:21:15 (9:58-pace; 9:21 9:11 9:10 9:07 9:02 8:58 8:55 9:14 8:58 9:12 9:16 8:53 9:09 9:26 9:48 9:53 10:05 10:05 10:18 10:15 11:07 11:53 11:09 12:21 12:46 10:12 9:14(str.)) Lafayette, Louisiana BoBoo6 T=50-48-51, H=96-92-83% overcast with minor drizzel in the first 3o minutes, 5mph NNE wind increasing to 10mph near the end. I ran the first half quite well in 2:00:13, but then some unknown smaller muscle (likely inner thighs or gluteus medius or gluteus minimus) started to feel quite sore and my right hip also started to feel sensitive, and I slowed down a lot and ran the second half in 2:21:03; fortunately, two days after the race, it no longer hurts lifting my right leg! They had boudin, jambalaya, fruit, beer and a good Zydeco band played in the Post-Race Party, although the weather was much too cold for dancing. 4/9a and 98/189o. However, the course is not very fast, as the footing was not always good and the course had a lot of turns; moreover, they changed the route in the last minute, adding more turns to it (I guess to eliminate some water stations, as only slightly over 200 runners participated).
3/16, 12:10p 5.0M ftl: 9x(1:f|1:s) 51:15 Boardwalk Virginia Beach WR20 T=38-39, H=33% and sunny. Was kind of stiff, but the right inner thigh muscle, although still somewhat senstitive, was no longer sore; consequently, I will run the Virginia Beach Shamrock 8K National Master Championship on Saturday. 184.4p (on Tuesday): ate too much food during my trips to Austin and Lafayette and did not move enough during the tapering!!
3/16, 3:20p 4.4M Dismal Swamp State Park, N.C. 80 minutes 50 miles SSW of Virginia Beach! WR20 T=44, H=38% and partly cloudy.
3/18, 7:45a 9.3M TowneBank Shamrock 8k & National USTAF Master Championship 42:01 (8:24-pace(my watch); 8:27-pace; 9:04 (bad conj.) 8:34 (minor conj) 8:16 8:07 7:52) Virginia Beach, Virginia BoBoo6 T=47, H=78% and overcast with 9-14mph SSW wind; slowed down by significant conjestion the first 1.5M (forcing me to run an extra 50 meters according my watch to get around roadkill runners who started anyway in the first or second corral) and head wind the first two miles; should have picked up the pace early, but ran the last mile well. 28th/141a and 855th/7760o; great postrace party in a very big tent on the beach and a lot of beer (everybody got 4 beer coupons), soup and a great rockband: half the tent was dancing; even at 11:30a the tent was still full of people! In summary, a great party race with almost everyone dressed up based on green Shamrock themes! Moreover, people were drinking much more beer than in Texas: For me this was the No. 1 event with respect to beer consumed after the race! This was my 244th race lifetime (I found another race I ran: the Mothers for Clean Air's 5K on April 11, 2009 in Downtown Houston) !
3/18, 9:15a 80min Dancing At race post-party in a big beach tent (400 Meter times 100 Meter) to the music of xyz; dancing on uneven beach sand that does not bouce at all felt kind of strange! This ends a 132,000 step week, inspite of running only three days!
3/19, 5:15p 6.4M easy 1:09:27 To Virginia Aquarium and beyond WR20 T=44, H=82% and partly cloudy with 12m/ph cold NNW wind. Kind of slow today! Also went to the Virginia Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA). (Report of Visits to MOCA&Aquarium).
3/20, 5:10p 5.2M easy 53:53 AllenR SNG8 T=85-84, H=47-49% and partly cloudy. Decent run in very challenging, very warm conditions! 179.2p: lost all the weight I gained in Virginia!
3/22, 5:50p 5.4M easy 58:48 RiceHer WR20 T=84-82, H=56-62% and mostly cloudy. Quite slow today in very warm conditions!
3/24, 6:10p 5.3M easy 56:15 AllenR WR20 T=77-76, H=78-82% and overcast. So so run!
3/26, 6:30a 9.9M easy 1:32:42 (10:18 9:53 9:19 9:23 9:01 8:59 8:57 9:36 9:34 9:37) RivOk SNG8 T=69-72, H=89-90% and mostly cloudy. Decent run in somewhat challenging conditions! 182.4p: regained half of the weight I lost the week before!
3/27, 6:05p 5.2M easy 51:22 AllenR WR20 T=85-82, H=61-66% and mostly cloudy; decent, quite quick run: averaged 9:56-pace miles 3-5!
3/29, 7:45a 6.0M very easy 1:08:18 (exploratory run also climbing a lot of stairs!) UH_DT4 SNG8 T=74-75, H=85-82% and overcast. Did not feel like running faster today! Explored running northwards along the side arm of Buffalo Bayou at Main Street, trying to find a way to cross under I-10 to hit a trail that runs westwards, parallel to I-10, but I did not succeed!
3/31 4/1, 7:05a 5.6M easy 57:37 Allen WR20 T=68-69, H=89-87% and mostly cloudy. Did not feel like running yesterday, but had a decent run today!
4/2, 6:30a 9.8M easy 1:34:45 (10:17 9:53 9:38 9:27 9:48 9:32 9:26 10:19 9:50 8:57(0.8M) ) MemAllen SNG8 T=73-75, H=96-94% and overcast including two very short drizzels. Okay run in very challenging conditions! 181.8p.
4/4, 6:50a 5.9M ftl: 17x(1:f|1:s) 1:00:43 Allen SNG8 T=66-67, H=90-89% and partly cloudy. Decent workout: ran the last 10 repeats in 8:10 to 8:50-pace. Both hamstrings felt sore after the workout!
4/6, 7:00a 6.0M easy 1:04:08 UH_DT3 (modified route!) WR20 T=59-61, H=62-58% and partly cloudy. Kind of slow run today, 2 days before a race. This is the new UH_DT3 route: H-Taft_Crossover-Y_Bridge-UH_DT_Pk-Spag_WH_Bridge-Trail_End_South_BB-Taft_Crossover-H (6.02M). 183.0p—need to reduce my weight to 175.0p by May 27, 2017! A true Complement-Weekday running week: running TU-TH-SA instead the usual MO-WE-FR-SU!
4/8, 8:00a 5.8M Bellaire Trolley 5k Run. 25:03 (8:02-pace; 8:05 8:04 7:59 6:57(str.) ) Bellaire, Texas BoBoo6 T=67-70, H=71-68% and partly cloudy! Kind of flat, after taking it easy for 3 weeks after the TownBank 8k race; have to learn to push the pace harder in short races, particularly if not "feeling that great"! Sore right hamsting after the race; hopefully, this is not something more serious!
4/10, 6:45a 12.2M easy 2:09:49 (ran miles 7-9 and 12 in about 10:10-pace, but the other miles significantly slower) H--MemPa(2.2)-H (via Taft-crossing) WR20 T=73-75, H=92% and overcast. Rare Monday morning semi-long run! Ran kind of slowly, but the good news was that I did not have any problems with my right hamstring and that it was only slightly sore after the run.
4/12, 5:50p 6.2M easy 1:06:36 RiceBraes SNG8 T=75, H=91-92% and overcast. Not killing myself today!
4/13, 6:15p 5.3M easy 52:00 AllenR WR20 T=79-78, H=55-67% and partly cloudy. Quite fast tonight, running much faster than yesterday, inspite of a crampy stomach since 1p. 164.0p
4/15, 8:50a 10.2M Hiking Columbia Tap Trail with HAT Meetup Group 3:06:04 Houston, Texas WR20 T=74-83, H=87-63% and partly cloudy.
